What is biometrics?
Biometrics is an advanced technique that, based on sophisticated digital systems, allows for the recognition of the individual through their personal and non-transferable characteristics. Fingerprint, facial recognition, retinal or voice identification, are the solutions we consider the most reliable. The first two are what we consider to be totally infallible. The relevance of this innovative technology is increasingly evident in organizations, regardless of the activity in which they operate.
How does it work?
All biometric systems have a similar operating mode:
1. The system collects a sample of a biometric feature
2. The system converts the unique characteristics into mathematical code
3. The sample is stored in a template, which can be located in the biometric system itself or in other storage systems, such as a database.
3. The user interacts again with the biometric system to verify their identity. A new sample is taken and compared to the template and the “test” is done:
a) If the template and the new sample match, access to the user is guaranteed.
b) If they do not match, access is denied.
What does 1:1 and 1:N mean? What is the difference?
Biometric verification systems (1:1) only compare two templates and determine whether the two templates actually belong to the same person. In general, one of the templates is stored in the database while the other is provided by the individual.
Biometric identification systems (1:N) compare a template with the entire database and identify the person if it was found in the database.
Identification has the advantage of identifying the person, regardless of who the person claims to be. Obviously if the person does not want to be identified, a verification system is of no use. On the other hand, verification is much simpler and requires much less computing power. Carrying out identification on the basis of millions of people can be expensive and time-consuming.
Is biometric technology physically safe for the individual?
Yes. The methods implemented to collect biometric data from individuals are non-invasive and pose no threat to the physical health or well-being of the individual.
How will I know if Biometric technology will operate as promised?
Biometric technology has been tested in places with high security requirements, such as high-traffic or sensitive spaces. It thus limits access only to authorized persons, that is, with a pre-existing identity in the database of the biometric system.
Can my biometric data be used for other purposes?
The use of biometrics, fingerprint or facial recognition has a high level of confidentiality. By means of the individual registration, no type of reproduction can be used for other purposes, and this type of validation is totally non-transferable.
Can I just buy your time and attendance software while keeping the timecard reader?
Yes. It is possible to integrate our software with the existing terminal if it is on our software/hardware compatibility list.
For more information about this possibility, contact us by e-mail, mentioning the equipment you have, so that we can confirm this possibility.
How can people or vehicles be identified in an Security Access Control System?
There are several ways that can be defined according to the convenience of use, together with the specific security needs of each situation.
Individuals can be identified through facial biometrics, digital biometrics, such as identification card holders that can be a SmartCard type with or without contact, proximity cards, barcode or magnetic stripe cards, or by entering a password in the keypad of a locking device.
Vehicles are typically recognized through licence plate or RFID tag recognition, complemented by accessing control barriers.
What is the Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados? Is it mandatory to register?
The Portuguese Data Protection Authority (Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados – CNPD) “It is endowed with the power to supervise and monitor compliance with the laws and regulations in the area of personal data protection, with strict respect for human rights and the fundamental freedoms and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution and the law.” CNPD cooperates with data protection supervisory authorities of other States, namely in the defense and exercise of the rights of persons residing overseas.
Registration is not mandatory but it is advisable, since the use of data for legal purposes, is only valid by registering with CNPD. Otherwise the use of data has no legal basis nor serves as another type of manifestation or evidence.

Concerning the use of registrations in your software: : I have the capacity to register 100 employees. If any of our employees ever leave, can the new employee’s record replace the previous one?
No. In these cases it is not possible to replace records. That is, it is determined by law that the registration of the initial 100 employees will have to remain unchanged for 5 years.
For the purposes of supervision by the Authority for Working Conditions, the employer must keep an additional working record, for 5 years, as per article 202 (4) of the Labour Code (Registration of working times).

What are IP Cameras?
IP cameras are a relatively recent video surveillance system. They have many advantages over previous IP CCTV (CCTV) surveillance systems because they can transmit images (and bidirectional audio on some models) to any computer, mobile phone or tablet over the Internet.
These cameras do not need to be connected to a computer or have the need to install any software because they have their own hardware and software Web server. The main advantages are its low cost and versatility. The versatility allows it to be used on various devices and with many interesting features such as recording, alarms, sending emails, remote movement, etc. So you can access everything from anywhere in the world simply with a device in your pocket; your phone or tablet, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.
Can I have an IP Camera without internet or router, that is, just the computer?
Yes. You can connect the IP camera directly to the computer using the supplied network cable and it has all the features such as video monitoring, recording of images, alarms, etc. However, it will only be usable for local monitoring and you will not be able to access the camera from other geographic locations.
If you want remote monitoring or recording you will need Internet access so that the camera can stream images.
